China Tour 2012 Review

The China Tour 2012 is complete and it has been our most successful tour to date. We experienced challenging training with a mix of traditional kung fu, san da, qi gong, tai chi and weapons training. We were also treated to various cultural workshops such as Language, Calligraphy, Tea Culture, Mediation and Chan Buddhism sessions. These were a delightful compliment to the training regime.
Everyone performed superbly during the training and the Centre of Beijing International Shaolin Culture (CBISC) Shifu’s gave very positive feedback. We’d like to give a special mention to our tour members who completed the training programme with little or no experience in martial arts. They persevered through long periods of training, in gruelling +40°C heat, for 8 hours every day and they continued to be upbeat and cheerful throughout. You should all be very proud with your performances and we hope that the experience has affected you positively and we hope that it will inspire you do more activities in the future.
Our group was also honoured especially by the North Shaolin Temple’s Abbot Shi De Xiang. We were invited to take part in a number of auspicious ceremonies in the North Shaolin Temple and its sister Temple, Lingshan in Baoding. These ceremonies were dedicated to bestowing honorary blessings on our group. It was an immense honour and we’d like to humbly thank the Abbot of the North Shaolin Temple for his generous hospitality and for the generosity of all the Monks involved.
The touring week was also exceptional. We experienced a lot Chinese cultural and heritage when visiting famous landmarks such as Tiananmen Square, Longman Caves, Terracotta Warriors Museum, Shaolin Temple, Xi’an’s Medieval City Walls, The Great Wall and the Forbidden City and the Olympic Village. We were also able to enjoy each locales unique cuisine; with authentic Peking duck and Defeng City’s food topping many people’s list. All our training didn’t go to waste because we enjoyed a thrilling 14km bike ride on Xi’an Medieval Walls and climbed some 3000 steps of the Great Wall of China. Aside from touring, we had plenty of time to enjoy the local entertainment, including karaoke, shopping districts and massage parlours.
We hope that all of our tour members had a tremendous time with the Centre of Beijing International Shaolin Culture. And we’d like to say that it was delightful to have you travelling with us. To those members outside of the UK Shaolin Temple, we hope that you’ll keep in touch.
